Narrative Podcasts to Foster Empathy and Reduce Stigma Among Third Year Medical Students
We spent one year studying the impact of listening to our podcasts on third year medical students from Tufts University Medical School at Maine Medical Center. Our research revealed that the podcasts foster greater empathy, reducing stigmatizing stereotypes and foster “Medical Humility.” Medical humility acknowledges the limits of medical treatments and even their capacity to do harm (like with the use of physical restraints). It also acknowledges the importance of truly listening to the patient as the expert on their own experience.
