Open Responses
What was one assumption that you had about these individuals (or their families) that was challenged?
I didn’t know some countries didn’t use restraints at all.
What was the most important takeaway for you?
Treating patients without their consent or using restraints on a patient may be a traumatic experience for both the patient and the staff involved in the process.
What is one thing you would do differently with your patients in the future?
Ask them more about how past experiences with hospitalizations/ED visits/physicians have impacted them (positive or negative)
What other topics would be helpful for you in the future?
I would like to learn more about what methods are used to keep patients/staff safe in places that don’t use restraints when there’s an emergency. Is medication just used more? Does that impact the patient similarly?
