What was one assumption that you had about these individuals (or their families) that was challenged?
I work at a psychiatric hospital. People who are coming to the hospital are very ill. I think you learn quickly not to assume who the person may be or what you thing he or she is coming from. We have homeless individuals to wealthy individuals all here trying to get help.
What was the most important takeaway for you?
Hospitalizations do strip you and leave you very vulnerable at a time when a person wants to invisible for a bit or to just make it go away without having to share with others.
What is one thing you would do differently with your patients in the future?
Always remember to listen, let the patient be heard, create trust if possible, and give them respect.
What other topics would be helpful for you in the future?
Love a talk on borderline personality disorder, CBT, and DBT.
